A 22-year-old Mitchell woman is Miss South Dakota 2013. Miss Gold Rush Tessa Dee was crowned Saturday night in Hot Springs, and will now represent South Dakota at the Miss American pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September.
Dee, who performed a gymnastics routine for her talent, was the third runner-up last year and is a recent graduate of the University of South Dakota. She won her preliminary swimsuit competition earlier in the week.
First runner-up was Miss Sturgis Morgan Black of Rapid City, while Miss Hot Springs Autumn Simunek of Hot Springs was named second runner-up.
The Saturday night finals capped a week of Miss South Dakota Pageant events that included the Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, which was held Friday night.
Taking that title was 16-year old Nina Mesteth of Rapid City, who will represent South Dakota at the Miss
America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando in August. Mesteth was the talent
winner with her skills in ballet.
First runner-up was Berkley Fierro of Rapid City followed by 2 Hot Springs competitors Delaney Graves and Amber Hulse. Fourth runner-up was Tristen Morrison of Piedmont.
