Arrangements have been made to have members of the Alliance High School Band perform in the July 20 Heritage Days Parade.
Alliance High School Principal Dr. Pat Jones says that the community response was one of disappointment when it was announced earlier this month that the band could not perform due to the absence of the program’s directors.
New high school band director David May will not be arriving in Alliance until late July, and middle school band director Laura Mangas is in Ohio receiving medical treatments.
Dr. Jones says the best case scenario is to have the band members perform while riding on a flat bed trailer that has been arranged by Tim Garwood of Alliance Tractor.
Dr. Jones, who has instrumental music experience, will coordinate music practices with the band’s head majorette, Ashley Quick.
Heritage Days parade practices for band students entering grades 10, 11, and 12 will be July 15, 16, 17, and 18 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the high school band room.
Students will be working on music performance only and marching techniques will not begin until Mr. May begins a summer band camp on July 31.
