Two Panhandle athletes, Colton Adams of Scottsbluff and Cooper Cogdill of Chadron, received the outstanding wrestler awards at the conclusion of the Chadron State College Wrestling Camp that ended Wednesday. Both will be seniors in 2013-14.
Adams is a three-time Class B state champion and is one of the highest rated high school wrestlers in the nation in his weight class. He competed at 132 this past year.
Cogdill is a two-time state tournament qualifier. He ended the CSC camp with a pin over Zach Thompson of Powell, Wyo., who was the Class 3A state champion at 195 pounds last winter.
CSC coach Brett Hunter said 230 wrestlers from 30 schools participated in the camp. Thirty-two Chadron State wrestlers helped with it.
The winners during the camp’s all-star matches Tuesday night besides Adams, Cogdill and Thompson were as follows:
Kye Catlin, Powell; Brice Harkless and Jared Harkless, Hot Springs, S.D.; Keegan Hessler, Scottsbluff; Houston Huss, Stanton, Neb.; Cory Kennedy and Davey Payne, Centennial High at Utica, Neb.; Walker Johnson, Alliance; Shawn Roblee, North Platte; Jess Trueblood, Pine Ridge, S.D.; and Procopia Valdez, Mesa Ridge, Colo.
