RMACThe Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has recognized 21 teams from 10 schools, including 2 from Chadron State College, for having the top grade point averages in each of the conference’s sports.

This is the first year for the “Brechler Awards,” named after former RMAC commission Paul Brechler…who served from 1976-1990…and his wife Wanda, also a long-time administrator for the conference. They were among the first inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame.

The two Chadron State teams claiming Brechler Awards were the football team with a 3.06 GPA and the wrestling team at 2.98.

Three schools won in 3 sports each…Regis in baseball, women’s golf, and men’s soccer, Western State in volleyball and women’s indoor and outdoor track, and Western New Mexico in men’s basketball, men’s golf, and women’s tennis.

Joining CSC with 2 Brechler Awards were Colorado Mines…women’s cross-country and men’s swimming and diving…Colorado-Colorado Springs…men’s indoor and outdoor track…and Colorado State-Pueblo…men’s tennis and softball.

Claiming in one sport each were Fort Lewis – women’s basketball, Metro State – men’s cross-country, Colorado Christian – women’s soccer, and affiliate member Incarnate Word of Texas in women’s swimming and diving.

Black Hills State, Colorado Mesa, Adams State, and New Mexico were the only full members to be shut out in the Brechler Awards.

Plaques for each team will be presented at the 2013 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards banquet on Friday, July 12, at the Colorado Springs Marriott Hotel.
