Kant is marking two milestones in 2013…his 30th birthday and the 30th anniversary of Chadron High’s Class B state championship team.
He will be feted in a free public reception-tribute on Saturday July 13th from 2-to-5 at the Chadron American Legion Club.
The program will be informal with have several of Kant’s assistants and wrestlers talking about him and telling stories. Everyone with memories or stories of Kant is encouraged to come and share then.
Kant…inducted into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989…was the Chadron High wrestling coach for 20 years, from 1968 through 1988 when a serious injury forced him to retire.
His teams finished in the Top 16 at state 18 times in those 20 years, with 14 Top 10 finishes, and 7 in the Top 5. The Cardinals were second under Kant in 1976 and 1978, third in 1975, fourth in both 1974 and 1984, and 5th in 1982…claiming 17 individual state titles and having nearly 100 state places.
A native of Lusk and a graduate of Chadron State College, Kant remains one of the area’s staunchest wrestling fans, attending all Chadron High and Chadron State home matches and frequently accompanying the Cardinals to out-of-town tournaments.
