Hi-Way 20 has operated the store…the Sioux Nation Shopping Center…for more than a quarter century, but now has until Aug. 4 to vacate the tribally-owned building.
The store was ordered shut down for a week last year over complaints about outdated meat being sold, but Hi-Way 20 attorney Terry Pechota says those problems were fixed with no new problems.
Pochota is optimistic that the company and the tribe can reach an agreement, but Tribal Economic Development Director Lyle Jack isn’t so sure and says he wouldn’t be surprised if the matter ends up in the courts.
