AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — They’re usually part of the public record: dashboard video clips of police stops. But country music star Randy Travis is in court, fighting the release of the video of his drunken driving arrest in North Texas last year.
The Austin American-Statesman reports Travis is suing both the Texas Department of Public Safety and the attorney general’s office to keep the video private. A judge originally granted a defense request to block the release.
But when media groups asked for it, the attorney general’s office ruled the judge didn’t have the discretion to block it. Prosecutors say Travis was found naked by a road after crashing his car. He pleaded guilty in January to driving while intoxicated and got two years’ probation.
