Chadron Community Hospital has been named the Radon Business of the Year by the Panhandle Public Health District and the Panhandle Worksite Wellness Council. Council Coordinator Jessica Davies made the award presentation Thursday to hospital representatives.
Davies says Chadron Community Hospital was recognized for having the highest percentage of employees among participating Panhandle employers testing their homes for radon.
With one in every two homes in Nebraska having an elevated radon level, Davies says it’s important to have every home test…and the PPHD and the Wellness Council are both proud of Chadron Community Hospital for taking the necessary steps to educate their employees about the hazards of radon.
Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the world…a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless gas that is harmless outdoors but a serious cancer risk when trapped in buildings and rising to elevated levels.
Free radon test kits are available throughout the winter months by calling the health district at 308-487-3600 ext. 107 or toll free at 866-701-7173.
