The Peppermill’s Joseph Angus Burger was one of five burgers from around Nebraska to reach the finals through online voting, then got the nod from a panel of judges.
The judges visited the 5 finalist restaurants anonymously and evaluated the burgers on taste, appearance, and proper cooking.
The Joseph Angus Burger is a 10-ounce beef hamburger with jalapeño bacon, cob-smoked ham, Swiss and cheddar cheeses, barbecue sauce, and house ranch dressing, topped with two crispy homemade onion rings.
The Peppermill opened in 1987 in the historic Fort Niobrara Hotel in downtown Valentine, closed in 2007, then reopened as the Peppermill and E.K. Valentine Lounge on Highway 20.
This year’s runner-up was Dinker’s Bar, followed by Greta’s Gourmet in Lincoln, Tommy Colina’s Kitchen and the Union Bar in Gering…whose entry was the Diet Burger.
