Mortar board - 4The high school graduation season in the northern Panhandle continues this weekend with 3 schools holding ceremonies.

Saturday, Chadron High holds its commencement at 10:00, followed by Crawford at 2:00. Gordon-Rushville graduation is Sunday at 2:00, with all 3 ceremonies in their respective gyms.

Chadron High graduation has traditionally been on Sunday and has been at the Armstrong Gym at Chadron State College for more than a decade, but the start of construction on the CSC Events Center project led to the decision to move the ceremonies this year.

The Chadron High ceremonies can also be seen online with livestreaming starting around 9:30 as a service to those unable to come to the ceremony in person.

Principal Jerry Mack says the link to watch the steaming video can be found on the Chadron school district website and on his blog at

Alliance High isn’t holding its graduation for another week, but the annual Baccalaureate service for the seniorswill be held this Sunday night at 7:00 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. It’s not a school district event, but is instead co-sponsored by the Alliance Ministerial Association.

The service is open to the public and will feature music, the sharing of scripture, messages, and prayer…with several Alliance High students sharing their talents.
