OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Former Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy has reimbursed the state $500 for thousands of calls to four women on his state-issued cellphone.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Dave Heineman, Jen Rae Hein, said Wednesday that Sheehy wrote a $500 check to the state on Feb. 25 and that the money was credited to the Nebraska Lieutenant Governor’s office.
Sheehy, a Republican, had been an early front-runner in the 2014 race for governor when he resigned in early February once the scandal came to light. An open records request turned up more than 2,000 telephone calls Sheehy had with four women who were not his wife. Sheehy’s former wife filed for divorce in 2012, and the divorce became final on April 30.
Sheehy could not be reached Wednesday for comment.
