IT’S NATIONAL AGRICULTURE WEEK
Agriculture is Nebraska’s largest industry with farming, ranching and related agribusiness activities responsible for approximately a quarter of the state’s economic activity. 93% of the state’s land is used for agricultural production, and Nebraska is one of the top states in the nation for international agriculture exports.
Governor Heineman is encouraging all Nebraskans to tak a momen this week to reflect on the importance of agriculture to the state and to thank a farmer or ranch for the important role they play in producing the nation’s food and fuel
He, State Ag Director Greg Ibach, and State Senator Ken Schilz of Ogallala…chairman of the legislature’s Ag Committee…will be visiting farmers and ranchers in Tecumseh, Papillion and Wayne tomorrow to celebrate Ag Day.
One way the Nebraska Department of Agriculture is celebrating National Ag week is by announcing the winners of its 10th annual statewide Agriculture Poster Contest for elementary students.
There were nearly 3,000 entries this year, double the usual total. The poster contest winners may be seen on the department’s website www.nda.nebraska.gov.
